WKEDA is.
WKEDA is a 501(c)4 non-profit organization that exists "...to promote the overall economic development of the western Kennebec region, including but not limited to, helping in the location or retention of industries and commercial establishment for the benefit of the region's tax base." (Organizational Bylaws)
WKEDA was formed in the late 1970s for the purpose of developing the Winthrop Business Park. Since then, the programs and service area of the organization have expanded to meet the overall economic development needs of the entire Western Kennebec Lakes region. Today WKEDA serves as the primary economic development agent to nine towns.
WKEDA is overseen by a Board of Directors, a slate of officers, and an Executive Director. The group has over thirty active volunteers.
WKEDA does.
WKEDA work directly with business owners, local leaders, property developers, and real estate professionals to transform vision into reality. If your project relates to the economic development of our region, then WKEDA is ready to play a role. WKEDA provides project management services, input and feedback, and market research on development projects of any scope and size. We also find grants, write grants, assist with planning, write TIFs, and help towns administer governmental programs.
Wondering if WKEDA can do it? Call us. If we can't, we'll find someone who can.
WKEDA can.
WKEDA can help business owners. Whether you need a business plan, you're looking to fill your vacant storefront, or you need help with financing, that's what WKEDA is here for. We have an army of current and past professionals ready to volunteer their time to help business owners find solutions. If we can't help you in-house, we'll find someone who can--and we do as much as we can at no charge to the owner.
WKEDA can help communities. For a reasonable yearly membership fee, or an hourly rate, WKEDA can help municipalites with their community and economic development projects.
